06th April 2006 : Hull FC V Leeds Rhinos

Super League Round 8 – Friday 7th April 8.00pm KC Stadium

This for me is our biggest test of the season so far; these lot still cannot get over the fact that we are the biggest club in world rugby and always will be.The fact that they have no coach at the moment should make no difference, they will be up for the game and we have to hit them hard early on.

I say this is the biggest test of the season so far because most Rhinos I know had, due to the low key preparation pre-season, written off the two points from the Saints match before we played them, now we are in much better form.
We should see the return of Chev Walker, Shane Millard and Willie Poaching as all are named in the 18; Nick Scruton should be the one to miss the final cut giving Ian Kirke another opportunity to show what he can do.

Hull’s final 18 does not include King or Briscoe who have wimped out but Richard Swain is back in the squad and should start after recovering from injury, we should be targeting him.

The Rhinos are quite rightly favourites with the bookies but Hull are only given 8 start, I will be lumping on the Rhinos at that, I can only see one winner.

Prediction: Hull 12 Leeds 28

Come on Leeds!!!!!

09th February 2006 : At Last Super League XI is here!!!

After 3, maybe 4 months stuck talking to the wife, Super League is back just in the nick of time before you have to start discussing the new series of footballer’s wives.

Unfortunately after a series of mediocre pre-season displays and an unbalanced squad, we will not be winning it unless we bring in a further winger.
The Bulls won't be winning it either as their recruitment has been as bad as ours, so that leaves The Saints. I'm not happy about it but I think they will have it won by round 23 and even worse I think that Hull will finish above us in second place.

Danny McGuire has to have a Bigseason offensively but having said that I don't think The Rhinos will struggle in that department, I think we look weaker in defence this year and for that reason I think we will finish in third spot just in front of the Bulls and then Wigan with Warrington making up top six.

Danny Ward might make an impact at Cas but I still see them finishing bottom just behind Wakefield.

These first 3 weeks will give us a good idea of what to expect from the Rhinos, I hope my pessimism proves misplaced and we are still going come 6.30pm on the 14th October.

Roll on Sunday!!
